Even liberal gun studies repeatedly
prove liberals wrong

John GaverLiberals just don't seem to learn.

A recent Obama-commissioned gun study is a case in point.

In response to liberal spin, conservatives always respond with facts. So lacking any supporting facts of their own, liberals will eventually commission a study, intended to generate the opposing facts that they so desperately desire.

But facts are pesky little things. You see, liberals don't seem to grasp the concept that that "facts are facts" and they don't change, even when the study is sponsored by a liberal president. It's difficult to imagine anyone who can't understand this basic truism. But as you'll see below, it's very common among liberal presidents.

In 1979, a Carter Justice Department study revealed that an unarmed woman is greater than 10 times more likely to be raped than an armed woman. This is from a Democrat-controlled Justice Department. It seems that even hand-picked liberal researchers just can't change facts.

But that didn't stop Bill Clinton from trying to use a study to create facts that better fit his anti-gun agenda. In 1997, the Clinton Justice Department had to admit, based on their own National Institute of Justice study titled, "Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms", that there are as many as 1.5 million cases of gun self-defense every year. That's a number that is so far beyond the number of gun assaults that occur every year that the latter number pales to insignificance. But to make matters worse, like the Carter Justice Department study, criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig, who were hand-picked to undertake this study, were noted anti-gun advocates. Yet, even they could not change the facts.

But liberals, not being the sharpest tacks in the box, just don't seem to be able to get their heads around the truism that facts are facts, regardless of who uncovers them. More particularly, Obama, being about as sharp as a bowling ball and just as dense, decided that he would commission a study that would produce some facts that fitted his anti-gun agenda that is entirely devoid of facts.

Oops!

The results are in and Obama is remarkably quiet on the subject of the results of the study that he commissioned. Do you wonder why? If you're liberal, they you may indeed wonder why Obama is being so silent on these results. On the other hand, if you're conservative, then you have no reason to wonder. That's because you already know the answer.

Obama's intended anti-gun study, "Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence", has revealed once again that facts are something that liberals just don't comprehend.

As with previous studies commissioned by liberal presidents, with the intent of producing facts to support their anti-gun agenda, this study has uncovered a number of the same pesky facts that we've seen in those other studies. Here are some of them, in the study's own words.

  1. "Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence" (imagine that!),
  2. "Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year" (where have we heard this before?), and
  3. "Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies (like sheltering in place)." (remember the Carter Justice Department results?)

Prior to Obama, it would have been difficult to imagine a less competent president than Jimmy Carter. But it's now clear that Obama should have learned from better Democrats than himself and paid attention to the gun data that came out of the Carter and Clinton Justice Departments and then stuck to what he's best at… lying.

But Obama obviously fell for his own spin and started believing that he was infallible. And like every other despot who thought himself infallible, he failed. His own study not only undermined his anti-gun agenda, but it produced even more facts that support private gun ownership and carry.

You have to wonder. Obama is supposed to be this great attorney (though he has never tried a case). So how is it that he failed to remember the very first thing that they teach students in law school?

"Never ask a question for which you are not ABSOLUTELY certain of the answer."
